What’s Important To Me

My wife, Jane, and I are strong advocates of child sponsorship having seen firsthand how people in other countries live with much less than most Americans. We have been child sponsors for World Vision nearly 20 years and currently sponsor three children in Guatemala and one in Kenya. The cost to sponsor a child is negligible, about $35.00 per month. Most of you probably spend that much in a month on coffee from your local coffee shop.

One of the reasons we chose the country of Guatemala for our children was because we felt it was close enough for us to be able to visit them. We have had the privilege of meeting them and their families on several occasions. While this is certainly not required, we have been richly blessed by these visits.

Another way that we give back to the world is through KIVA. We are new to Kiva but were so intrigued with the idea that we had to sign up. KIVA is a non-profit organization with a mission to connect people through lending to alleviate poverty. Leveraging the internet and a worldwide network of microfinance institutions, KIVA lets individuals lend as little as $25 to help create opportunity around the world.

Faith PCA

My family has been active members of Faith PCA for more than 25 years. We believe it’s an important part of a person’s life to be involved in a local church. Christ did not intend for us to go through life alone; we need the support and help of other Christians. So if you are not a part of a local congregation, we highly recommend that you find one that teaches sound doctrine, where you can learn and grow in your faith.

One of the things we have come to love about Faith PCA are the short-term mission projects that they sponsor. Our family has been especially active in the trips to Mérida Mexico. Faith church has also sent teams to Nicaragua, Brazil, Africa, and Peru.

  1. Coincidentally I worked for World Vision for 13 years here in Canada. I retired on long-term disability though in 1991 as I was diagnosed with M.S. and had to slow down. One of our sons worked there also for 20 years. Diane
